Description
Easter Sunday in Slovakia is a major Christian holiday. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. For many Slovaks it is a deeply spiritual day when people go to church and reflect on faith and hope.
The date changes each year. Easter Sunday falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that comes on or after the March equinox. That means it can be in late March or in April.

The holiday is important because it marks new life and renewal. For Slovak society it blends religious meaning with cultural identity. Easter helps people feel connected to their beliefs and to each other.
Traditions
On Easter Sunday in Slovakia families meet to share a festive meal. Tables are decorated with painted eggs called kraslice. People wear small spring flowers or folk clothes in some villages. Children admire the colorful egg designs and patterns.
Men often perform playful whipping with willow rods called korbáč to wish health. In some places women are gently sprinkled with water in a custom called oblievačka. Women reward the men with decorated eggs, sweets, or shots of plum brandy.
The food is rich and homemade. Common dishes include smoked ham, sausages, boiled eggs, fresh bread and sweet yeast cake called baba. Cheese spreads and pickled vegetables sometimes appear as side dishes.
