End of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) 2025
Date: March 30, 2025 (Sunday)
Country: Bahrain Public Holidays
Description
Eid al Fitr, called End of Ramadan, is a Muslim holiday celebrating the end of a month of fasting. People wake early for a special prayer, wear nice clothes, and share sweet foods with family and friends.
The date moves each year because it follows the Islamic lunar calendar. Eid begins on the first day of the month of Shawwal after the new moon is seen. In Bahrain the exact day is announced by religious authorities after moon sighting.
Eid is very important because it marks spiritual renewal, thankfulness, and community. People give charity to help the poor, visit relatives, and enjoy public celebrations. Schools, banks, and many businesses close for the holiday.
Traditions
Eid al Fitr in Bahrain begins with a joyful morning prayer called Salat al Eid. Families dress in new clothes, visit the mosque or open fields, and greet each other with hugs and sweets. Charity and Zakat al Fitr are given to help the poor.
Homes are cleaned and decorated. Children get Eidi, which is money or gifts. People eat special foods like Bahraini halwa, sweet pastries, dates, kahwa coffee, and family feasts with dishes such as machboos. Visiting relatives and sharing meals is central.
In towns and islands celebrations vary a little. Coastal villages may have boat gatherings and traditional music. In Manama there are bigger public markets and festivals, but the spirit of family, food, and kindness is the same everywhere.
