The date moves each year because it follows the Islamic lunar calendar. Eid begins on the first day of the month of Shawwal after the new moon is sighted. The government declares public and bank holidays so people can celebrate.

People attend special morning prayers at mosques or open grounds. They give a small charity called zakat al fitr before the prayer, wear new clothes, visit relatives, and say Eid Mubarak. The holiday honors gratitude, community, and forgiveness.

Traditions

Eid al Fitr in Bangladesh is a joyful festival after Ramadan. Families wake early, wear new or clean clothes, and go to a special prayer called Eid namaz at mosques or open fields with neighbors and relatives.

People give charity called zakat al fitr before prayer. Then families visit each other, hug, and ask for forgiveness. Children get money called eidi and wear bright clothes. Homes are cleaned and decorated with lights and rangoli like designs.

Food is very important. Common dishes are sweet sevai or sheer khurma, rice, kebabs, biryani, and many sweets. Guests are served tea and snacks all day long.

Regional customs vary. In rural areas community feasts are common. In cities there are big family gatherings and shopping for new clothes and gifts.
